XML can be considered as a representation of hierarchical data, and the XML-related standards - as methods of processing such data. We describe benefits of XML view on legacy data and its processing, and suggest a method to develop XML tools and make them reusable for different tree-like structures in different programming languages.
Our approach is to use virtual machine technology, in particular, the Scheme programming language. We're taking the unusual step of using the Scheme syntax itself as a native virtual machine language. Together with the
Boris Kolpackov put together a full introduction to XML Data Binding in C++: "Anyone who has had to handle a large XML vocabulary using DOM or SAX can attest that the task is hardly enjoyable. After all, both DOM and SAX are raw representations of the XML structure, operating in generic elements, attributes, and text. An application developer often has to write a substantial amount of bridging code that identifies and transforms pieces of information encoded in XML to a representation more suitable for consumption by the application
"CodeSynthesis XSD is an open-source, cross-platform W3C XML Schema to C++ data binding compiler. Provided with an XML instance specification (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. You can then access the data stored in XML using types and functions that semantically correspond to your application domain rather than dealing with intricacies of reading and writing XML.... The process of extracting the data from a direct representation of XML (such as DOM or SAX) and
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) data binding provides a simple and consistent way for applications to present and interact with data. Elements can be bound to data from a variety of data sources in the form of common language runtime (CLR) objects and XML. ContentControls such as Button and ItemsControls such as ListBox and ListView have built-in functionality to enable flexible styling of single data items or collections of data items. Sort, filter, and group views can be generated on top of the data.
The data binding functionality in WPF has
